I am love sweets, and of course the number 1 thing sweets are made with is SUGAR. I’ve been trying to work on eating healthier, but I do have a weakness it’s sweets. Cutting out the sweets have been hard. Turns out the reason we are craving sweets and sugar is because our body is low on magnesium rich foods. Dr. Susan Yanovisk says that up to 80% of people in the U.S. may be deficient in magnesium. If you crave chocolate, that is actually high in magnesium, that is telling your brain that you need more, even though you think you just need to fill your sweet tooth. She also explains that magnesium doesn’t just affect our sweet tooth. It also play a role in bone health, heart function and even mood and energy levels.
The recommended daily allowance for women is 320 milligrams, for men it’s 420. Seeds make a great source, an ounce of pumpkin seeds has 168 milligrams, and spinach is also rich in magnesium, a cup of cooked spinach gives you 156 milligrams. Beans, brown rice, dried fruits and salmon are also high in the mineral and if you eat enough of it, you may find your sugar cravings go away, too.
