Last night the start to the 2020 baseball season officially got underway… only 4 months later. Better late than never. While baseball got started not many people heard about the update to the postseason. I know it’s crazy to already be talking about postseason baseball since things are just getting started but, postseason will start at the end of September.
Yesterday news broke that they will expand the playoffs to 16 teams for the season. This is so that more fans can experience playoff baseball. Commissioner Rob Manfred also said “We look forward to a memorable Postseason concluding a year like no other.”
How it will work is that all second place teams in the six divisions now qualify for the playoffs. The seventh and eighth teams in each league will be chosen by best record. The first round of playoffs is set for September 29th – October 2nd in each league. There will be four three game series. The games will be played at the higher seed’s home stadium. The rest of the rounds will be their customary length.
