Last night the 53rd annual CMA Awards were on. The night started off very strong and continued throughout the show.
The opening number really set the tone. With Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Nettles, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Highwomen – a.k.a Maren Morris, Bandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, Tanya Tucker, Gretchen Wilson, Crystal Gayle, Terri Clark, Sara Evans and Martina McBride all shared the stage. Their medley was a nice mix of classic songs from Linda Ronstadt to Loretta Lynn to Tammy Wynette’s song. Then we heard some of our favorite 90s and early 2000 songs close it out. Carrie, Dolly and Reba did a great job hosting but I will say I did miss the banter that Carrie and Brad have had in the past.
Throughout the night more amazing performances happened from Luke Combs to Dan + Shay to Maren Morris. A couple of my favorite performances were Reba singing “Fancy”. Yes she even had her famous red dress on.
Kelsea Ballerini also gave a very memorable performance. Just sitting with her guitar in the middle of crowd singing “Homecoming Queen?”
Of course there were some great collaborations as well. My favorite was Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson singing “Rainbow Connection.”
Throughout the night Carrie Underwood changed 12 times. That was from walking the red carpet to the the after parties. She looked stunning in every single outfit. There was one thing that caught not only my eye but a lot of others. The idea that Carrie could be pregnant. It looked like she had a little baby bump. No announcement was made during the event.
As far as the awards Garth Brooks took home the big award of the night for Entertainer of the Year. Kacey Musgraves took home Female Vocalist of the Year and Music Video of the Year. Male Vocalist went to Luke Combs who also took home the award for Song of the Year.
All in all it was a great night for Country Music. It was full of girl power, and I have a feeling 2020 is going to be another great year with so many great songs, albums and tours.
